Celebrating Success at the Structural Timber Awards

Driven by the need to reduce carbon emissions by employing more environmentally friendly construction materials – we are experiencing a seminal moment in the long and illustrious evolution of timber construction. Reinforced by the latest technological advances, new prefabrication techniques and processes that increase its sustainability, safety, and efficiency – timber structures are reconnecting our interior spaces with nature through the warmth, texture, and beauty of wood.

Despite a challenging year, as we have come to expect the 2020 Structural Timber Awards attracted a rich vein of entries spanning architectural achievements and engineering feats – all reaping the rewards of contemporary timber technology. These projects are representative of a construction industry that is now embracing digital tools and smart technologies but as ever, variety is central to the Structural Timber Awards.

Construction professionals gathered virtually on 27 January 2021 - to celebrate the great, the good and the simply outstanding. With 16 categories and hundreds of entries, this year's Structural Timber Award judges had an onerous job of selecting the winners. The big winner on the night was Heatherwick Studio for Maggie's Leeds who scooped the Winner of Winners accolade.

The head of the judging panel and Chief Executive of the Structural Timber Association, Andrew Carpenter said of the night: "The depth of expertise across all categories was impressive and the exceptional number of entries clearly demonstrates the upturn in the industry. The Structural Timber Awards is a high-point in the construction industry calendar, and it is truly inspiring to see so much activity in the sector."

There has already been a large amount of attention focused on next year's awards, and excitement of returning to a physical event, which will take place on 06 October 2021 at the National Conference Centre, Birmingham. The Awards once again will reward excellence, celebrate expertise in timber technology and the ways it contributes to an attractive, energy efficient and sustainable built environment.

For the hundreds of construction professionals who have attended the Structural Timber Awards, there is no need to explain the promotional opportunities that go hand in hand with this event. The Awards provide one of the most effective platforms to promote brands or companies alongside the best of the best.
