Providing affordable housing remains a fundamental issue for local authorities. Working traditionally with developers is not delivering the numbers needed. The costs of housing tenants in temporary accommodation continues to rise and the UK is desperately in need of long-term housing solutions. Foreseeing the looming housing shortage, ZED PODs Ltd have developed a unique solution, that offers innovative, highly energy-efficient modular homes which provide permanent living space for young professionals, key workers & vulnerable households. We build energy positive new homes above existing car parks whilst retaining the parking spaces beneath – an excellent solution to land, revenue, sustainability & permanent housing issues.
Our housing project "Hope Rise", in collaboration with Bristol City Council, Bristol Housing Festival (BHF) and YMCA Bristol, has been designed to be the first 100% affordable and zero-carbon housing development aimed at creating a mixed tenure affordable housing scheme over the Chalks Road car park, adjacent to St. George Park, Bristol. It is a pioneering environmental and socially focused development which will deliver much needed social housing in St George for young people in need of affordable housing.
The development includes 9 X one-bed and 2 X two-bed low carbon homes. These apartments will be managed rented at an affordable rate (social rent) to young people in need of housing. The homes have been optimised for energy efficiency and lowest possible energy costs, with PV panels to generate electricity in the day, quiet running heat pumps for low energy heating, controlled ventilation which recovers usable heat from inside the building whilst bringing in fresh air, triple glazing, LED lighting and energy efficient appliances. The scheme will be truly innovative, a first for the city and of its kind in the UK. This innovative development will rethink existing land use in central locations, demonstrating new thinking to help solve housing crisis whilst providing beautiful, low carbon housing.
