Constructing Excellence Involvement in Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Bid

Constructing Excellence’s vision of new delivery models giving better outcomes for clients and better supply-side profitability is about to receive a huge boost from the new Construction Sector Deal with its focus on transforming procurement, innovation and skills.

Government is setting up a Core Innovation Hub to establish the facilities and capability to support cross-sector collaboration to develop, validate and commercialise digital and manufacturing technologies for the construction sector. The Hub will lead a programme to develop the standards, tools, designs and regulation methods to support a sustainable marketplace for digitally-driven manufacturing in construction. Following the establishment of the Hub, there will be opportunities for industry to participate including future collaborative R&D funding calls.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), BRE and the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB) have come together as the Transforming Construction
Alliance to submit their bid for the Core Innovation Hub, based on a unique combination of:

Independent expertise in construction testing & validation, manufacturing production systems and built environment digital infrastructure
National profiles and existing programmes with government, academia and industry
Existing laboratories, demonstrators and collaboration facilities
World-class education, training, research and dissemination resources
UK-wide partnership networks

Constructing Excellence supports the Sector Deal, the need for the Innovation Hub and the Transforming Construction Alliance bid. Through our links with BRE, we will have a key role to play in engagement and knowledge transfer between the Hub and industry. The benefits for the CE mission and the opportunities for our members and wider network are clear.

Please help us to demonstrate the support of the CE membership for this bid, to articulate the priorities as our members see them, to propose specific areas for engagement and to quantify the benefit the Hub could bring to your R&D, to projects, jobs and bottom line.

We’ve put together a suggested proforma for letters and emails in support which you can download from the CE website: http://constructingexcellence.org.uk/tca-proforma-letter/

These will have most impact if received by Friday 18th May 2018. They can be submitted to CE, to any of the Alliance partners, to contact@transformingconstruction.org.uk  and/or comments can be left at http://transformingconstruction.org.uk/ . If the Alliance bid is successful we will update you on what this means for CE and its members.
